Candidate Biography:
I began my SWE career at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI in 2001. I have held a variety of different positions on many different levels during my SWE tenure ranging from social director of my collegiate section to Ttransition Membership Coordinator for the National Membership committee. I graduated in May of 2006 with Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering degrees. In December of 2008, I completed my coursework for my Masters of Biomedical Engineering and am currently working on finishing my pesky thesis. Now that I have some spare time, I enjoy mountain biking, snowboarding, reading and playing with our new Wii.
I work as an R&D Engineer at Boston Scientific CRM. In this position, I am responsible for both product development and continuous product support. My technical position in concert with my SWE experiences has given me the skills to work efficiently and effectively in an interdisciplinary environment. One experience has prepared me for another as I have taken on new challenges, at both locations. I consider my greatest strength my ability to have both detail and high level views of a situation, which allow me to consider problems and opportunities from many sides.
Candidate Statement:
SWE-MN is a vibrant and highly active section through our PD, Outreach and Networking programs. One of my high level goals for this year is to better enable us to maintain our excellent level of performance by strategically determining a path forward for both the near and not so near terms. We have the opportunity this year to revise the section’s strategic plan and I believe that we should capitalize on this opportunity to challenge ourselves to create a model to continuously improve and reach for slightly better than the year before. One of my other goals naturally follows from the previous. This is to help SWE-MN fill our leadership pipeline and develop our members to succeed both inside and outside of SWE as leaders. I intend to work with the entire SWE-MN executive committee to enable programming and other opportunities to better serve our members.

Adrienne L. Kelsey – SWE-MN Secretary
Service:
2008-2009 SWE-MN Secretary, Outreach Committee Member
2007-2008 SWE-MN Professional Development Chair
2003-2008 SWE-MN Member
Awards:
2008 SWE National Professional Development Award for the 15th Annual Spring Professional Development Seminar
I received my degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota in 1999. After graduation I worked as a mechanical design engineer at MTS Systems Corporation. In the seven years I was there, I worked on the design of many hydraulic systems and products. In the fall of 2001, two years after starting at MTS, I started the Masters of Manufacturing Systems Engineering degree at the University of St. Thomas. I finished the MMSE degree in the spring of 2006. In October 2006, I decided to change course. I left the machine design world and joined the biomedical world as a Senior Process Development Engineer at Boston Scientific in Maple Grove, MN, working on the design for a new catheter used to aid the deployment of pacemaker leads.
I have been a member of SWE since 2003. I have been an active member since that time attending many Professional Development meetings, aiding with Outreach Events such as the Girl Scout Patch Day, the Wow! That’s Engineering event, Tech Fest, and Spark, Slime & Speed and attending multiple Regional and National Conferences. In 2007, I wanted to take on a more active role within SWE, so I volunteered to be the chair for the Professional Development (PD) committee. The PD committee held nine successful events, and won a SWE National award for the 15th Annual Spring Seminar held in March 2008. In summer 2008, I was elected as the secretary for the Minnesota section and I continue to hold that position.
I am interested in holding the position of SWE-MN Treasurer next fiscal year. The goals that I would have as treasurer would include maintaining a balanced budget, collecting funds and distributing reimbursements in a timely manner, properly filing the taxes for the section, following and enforcing all financial rules and aiding the fund development committee. I am organized and committed. I always follow through on tasks that I volunteer to spearhead plus I am a good communicator. These are the traits that are important to the role of SWE-MN Treasurer and I believe that I can fulfill that role.
